The Princess's Secret Slide:

It is possible to beat the 21 second time limit, then jump as you are crossing the finish line so that you can get the star without touching the ground. You can also beat it in over 21 seconds, jump while you cross the finish line, and break open the box with the other star in it without touching the ground.

Before you enter the slide going down, there is a little overlapping ledge over the entrance to the slide. Go to either the left or the right of the entrance. If you can jump correctly, you will be able to jump up on top of the entrance to the slide.

Try to stand up on the red part of the slide for ten seconds. This is too easy once you know how.

Hint:  You can only do this in the middle part of the slide.

Enter the slide right in the middle (the coins at the start are in the middle).  As soon as you enter the slide, put the controller on the floor.  Mario will slide for a little while and then fall off.  While falling, Mario will hit an invisible object and go "oomph".

I know of a few people that have beaten this score, so I'll have to work on this one a little more.

Scott Rogoff said:  I have found a really good way to decrease your time. Enter the slide by using the run + Z + B move that makes you slide on your side. When you get to the turn where you can take the shortcut, jump over. The thing is, you have to kind of skim the top of the ledge so when you are in the air, you can press B and land, sliding, on your stomach. Then finish the race. This improved my time from 17.8 to 15.7.

My technique is a little different.

Can you wall kick all the way back up the hallway at the end of the slide?

Just wall kick left and right and left and right and so on until you finally escape to fall to your death.

Can you jump kick all the way back up the slide (starting from the very bottom)?

Can you stand on each of the thin arches that you normally slide through? The first two are easy if you know how, but the last one is a little bit tougher.

Hint: Now would be a good time to "Stand on the Slide".

Can you stand on each of the red/orange pillars towards the end of the slide? The first one is pretty tough, but the other two are easy.
